Happy Day 73 – The power of humor to transform life’s threats.
Sometimes there is a very fine line between laughing and crying. We can laugh so hard that we cry. And we can feel sad enough that the only thing to do is laugh.
The drawing I did 10 days ago was fairly dark and bleak – one of those that seems to beg the question, ‘where is the happiness in that?’ But yet, I found that when quite a few people looked at it, rather than finding it depressing, they laughed. The message was that it is difficult to trust and relax when part of us believes we must brace ourselves for life’s next threat. The googly eyes staring out of the darkness and the humor in the character’s pose elicited laughter. The mood was lightened and they were more receptive to the serious message about drawing attention to the way we sometimes brace ourselves against life. Threats were transformed into fun. Humor served as a life preserver.
