100 Happy Days: Day 68

When we are convinced it is impossible to add another ball, sometimes the universe does it anyway

Happy Day 68: Doctors still trying to figure out what it going on with my dad, mom was having surgery on a skin cancer spot on her nose, we got the diagnosis for my daughter’s back… and all of this over an on-going under current of grief following my wife’s dad’s death, her job search, and her continued health issues from her current workplace triggered serious allergy and asthma problems.

Enough??? We certainly thought enough and then some. But that isn’t what the universe thought. Just as we collapsed in a puddle on the sofa to relax a bit in the evening, one of our smoke detectors went off. Upon investigation, we found no smoke, no flames, no hot walls. Questioning a possible faulty detector, we swapped the detector with another one from another part of the house. When we switched them, the one that had been going off stopped and the one that had been previously silent started going off.

We were baffled, but in the interest of rather safe than sorry we called 911. All the crews from two fire houses were here in less than five minutes. Impressive. It was about 9:00 and our street was completely filled with flashing lights. The fire fighters were very glad that we had called, but they too were baffled and found no evidence of fire.

At that point, there was only one thing we could do: laugh. What a crazy sense of humor you have sometimes universe!
